Low-lying branches reached out and snagged at her fur, but she barely noticed. Her thickening coat was her barrier to the elements; not much could breach its security. Rocks poked at her tough feet, but again she did not mind. The toughened exterior of her feet was like leather, never pierced by the every-day objects she might encounter. Her dark eyes looked curiously around, bright and relatively healthy. They saw young trees just sprouting up for the earth, as well as old, firmly-rooted trees that were quite clearly not moving for anything or anyone. She was fairly content as she casually sauntered along her way, trying to catch a bite to eat.
Let's see... waste my time on a rabbit? I don't think so. I'm practically dying of starvation... let's get some substantial food. Hey, it might even be fun chasing it!
Her face spoke nothing of these thoughts as she walked along. She was a perfectly happy young lady on her own, but when placed in a group, she'd rather just blend in and keep to herself.
A young female deer stood near a tree that still had lingering green leaves on its branches. She was completely unaware of her stalker that was carefully plotting out an attack. Vesper kept low to the ground and avoided especially crunchy leaves at all costs. She crouched behind a thick-trunked tree and narrowed her eyes, focusing in on her lunch. Her tail laid rigidly out behind her. She dared not move it. The silvery-black wolf took a step forward and unfortunately crunched a leaf. The doe picked her head up on high alert, and she began to walk off.
Not a chance, dearie.
Vesper launched off her hind end, muscles surging and heart thumping. Though her legs were shorter than the deer's, she was gaining ground with her quick, low to the ground strides. The deer was more graceful, but her lofty, bounding way of going was putting her at a disadvantage. Vesper took one more powerful stride and catapulted herself onto the back of the running deer. They toppled over as the wolf's claws and teeth dug simultaneously into the deer's flesh. The doe struggled, thrashing her legs around, before the black beast atop her sunk its teeth into her neck, ending it all.
She licked her lips eagerly, wondering where to start. They had fallen down a slight hill and now rested in a fairly open area. Vesper would have chosen a different area to feast, but this would do just fine.
